CHL S.p.A., a company listed on the ESM (Electronic Stock Market) of the Italian stock market Borsa Italiana since 2000, was the first company in Italy to launch an e-commerce website. The company was founded in 1993 and named “Centro HL Distribuzione Srl”. The foundation for the company’s development consisted in the activation of the Bullettin Board System (BBS) service: a modem-based telematics system which allowed access to CHL’s database, consultation of the pricelist and placing of orders.
In 1995, CHL launches the Internet project: the company creates the first Italian e-commerce portal, www.chl.it. This portal proposes and sells items produced and assembled directly by the company such as computers, computer accessories and other machineries. This initiative has an immediate success.
Towards the end of 1999, CHL S.p.A. enhances its portal by selling software, telephony, audio-video, and photography products.
In 2000, the company enters the Stock Market Piazza Affari, and joins the STAR segment (formerly New Market).
In 2015, CHL S.p.A. presents the “Internet Sicuro” application under the “Scuol @ 2.0” program. In July of the same year, the company signs a commercial agreement foreseeing the supply by Terra S.p.A. of Safe Adsl and later of Internet and Voice Services.
In September 2016, CHL S.p.A. and Terra S.p.A. sign an agreement which endorses the entry of Terra S.p.A.’s shareholders into CHL. At the end of December 2016, a new financial strategy is launched and in July 2017 a new industrial development plan having amongs its objectives a significant transformation of the company.
